Literature for a Modern Era

What would you say if that teenage punk with the nose ring and blue and green hair was listening to an MP3 player rocking his head back and forth?

What would you say if that same punkass kid was reading a book by Jules Verne?

What would you say if that same punkass with the nose ring and blue and green hair was listening to an MP3 player of Jules Verne for their honor english class?

Well you can’t make this up, well you- can I just did, but you wouldn’t be all that far off…

Let me be the first to introduce you to Librivox, an online resevoir of literature who have lost their copyright status.

LibriVox recordings are Public Domain in the USA. If you are not in the USA, please verify the copyright status of these works in your own country before downloading, otherwise you may be violating copyright laws.

Now you won’t find Stephen King or John Grishman or JK Rowling, you’ll still have to fork over large bags of cash to purchase and listen to their works. After all the Solid Gold Hummers don’t grow on tree (see yesterday’s Wierd Al post for reference). But you can find stuff from Robert Louis Stevenson, Neitzsche, Machiavelli, Shelly, Plato, Whitman and many more.

there’s even one from the United States Rubber Company called The Romance of Rubber… not going there…

You can also find short stories and poetry and children’s literature.

So if you are not going to read a book, you can listen to some of the classics…
